I'm writing this update from 40,000ft as I fly home to Orlando for what is going to be a very exciting off-season. Kate and I are expecting our 2nd baby which is going to be a little girl around Christmas time! For me, to be able to focus on the birth of our 2nd child during the off-season is an amazing opportunity. With Leo, it came at the end of February when things were already in full swing. Also, a lot of our family are coming to visit for Christmas and also to meet the new addition to the family. It's going to feel like a true family holiday with so many people around. Kate and I are often without family for long periods of the year so this will be a real treat.
In terms of the golf, I'm satisfied with the year I've had on the course. I've seen improvements in my ball striking and to win another big PGA Tour event makes me feel like I backed up a good 2010. That is something I have never been able to do in my career, back up one good year with another. Saying that though, there is also so much for me to improve upon and focus on for next year. I'd love to be more effective in the majors and also make the Ryder Cup team. I feel very motivated to use this off-season time to be as productive as possible and make some improvements mainly in my short game that will help those goals happen.
It is great to have my coach Sean Foley in Orlando and we will get some good quality work done. It is also a great time of year to focus on fitness. There has, once again this year, been an increasing amount of guys who are working hard in the gym. It's important not to get left behind. An extra 10 yards that I could possible find through a dedicated winter programme would be very useful!
I feel the off-season break is very important. It's more than just putting your feet up. It's the one time of year you get to truly work at your game and move the needle for improvement. Throughout the season, it's about competing and trying to stay mentally fresh.
Thanks once again for following my career and always supporting me.
I wish you all a happy holiday time with family and friends.
Justin
