It was great to get the season under way in Hawaii. We rented a house with neighbours of ours from Lake Nona who happen to be from Honolulu originally so it was great to get some local knowledge on beaches and restaurants etc. We arrived in Honolulu on Saturday evening and on Sunday headed to the north shore to see some of the famous 40ft waves. Unfortunately they were only around 10ft but still looked pretty scary!
When Thursday rolled around it felt good to be in competition mode after a good few weeks practicing in Florida. My game has felt good in the off season and I've practiced hard. I got off to a good start birdying the 1st hole of the year and being -1 through 7. Things got away a little from there shooting a +2, 72. This put me under the gun to make the cut but I made the most of my early start and slightly calmer conditions shooting 65. Saturday was a little flat shooting a so so 71 and Sunday felt the same untill I caught fire and played my last 10 holes in -6 to shoot 64. This jumped me up to a tie for 12th.
It feels good to have shot 2 low scores already and those are the kind of numbers required at the Bob Hope this week. Some of my stats were good too. I was number 1 in total driving which is a combination of distance and accuracy. That is a first for me. I feel I have gained some distance in the last couple months which is fun!
Thanks for following me again this year and here's to some exciting updates to come....
Justin
