I headed to Muirfield Village for The Memorial in good spirits as it is the venue that I have done really well at in the past. And also after a final round of 66 at The Colonial tournament I felt like I was building a little bit of momentum. So my opening round of 80 came as a big surprise. I really didn’t get to grips with what were the fastest greens of the year so far including Augusta and had 36 puts. I hit the same amount of greens in regulation as Luke Donald and he shot 64! It put me in the situation where I had to go low on Friday to make the cut but a slow start insured my fate of a week end off. It would be easy to be hard on myself given the scores I shot but strangely enough I have started to hit a lot more iron shots closer to the hole than I have done for a long time so I must be doing a lot of things right. I think it is easy when you are not playing well to think it all stems from the long game but the reality is when your short game isn’t sharp the few mistakes that you make with the long game are highlighted because you can’t scramble for a par and you loose your momentum.

Basically my focus leading up to the US Open is to sharpen up this part of my game and trust that everything else is in decent shape. On a relaxing note I have been enjoying the NBA finals where Orlando Magic are playing LA Lakers and I managed to go to a game last night and Orlando won which is cool.
