5 October 2010

Congratulations to the European Ryder Cup team on winning the cup back.

They battled hard and showed tremendous passion during a testing week. I am proud of how some of my friends played out there. I am more excited than ever to get into the team for 2012 as I think the cup changing hands between the 2 teams in the last few years has really been positive for this great sporting rivalry.

Well done boys!

As the Fedex Cup is now over, it seems like a good time to reflect on the the last few weeks and the year as a whole.

I started the Playoffs in the top 5 which was always a significant number as if you got to the last event in that top 5 and won the Tour Championship you hoisted to Fedex Cup.

Points were quintupled in the Playoffs which gave guys who hadn't had good seasons the opportunity to make big jumps but it also meant that my good season to that point was not as meaningful because to do well in the fedex cup it is neccessary to play well for 4 weeks or at least 1 great week in the 4.

For me it didn't really click. I played some good golf but didn't get the momentum going any week for 4 rounds. I felt very close at The Barclays and was 2 off the lead going into the last round before receiving a call from Colin Montgomerie saying I wasn't in the Ryder Cup team. That was deflating. I was hopefull of making the team. I tried to pick myself up and focus on the job at hand but felt my mind wandering back to the decision by Monty and replaying the conversation in head. I ended up tied for 15th. I followed this with a very poor missed cut in Boston and then played well in Chicago and was once again close to top form but a lot of short putts missed and a few to many mental errors on Sunday left me in 21st spot. Another 15th in the Tour Championship left me 15th in the Fedex Cup. I guess it was all just a little average. I needed one big week.

That big week didn't transpire but I think it has been a long summer and a draining one. Lots of emotion and lots of travel.

I'm now really excited about the off season. It is a period that i see as a huge opportunity to get better as a player. Also I get to spend genuine quality time with the family. That is rare for us all so I want to make the most of it.

I am playing a light schedule for the remainder of the season but will be doing all the right things behind the scenes to give myself the chance to come out strong next year.

I'll be in touch but I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for following a fun year for me.
