13TH APRIL 2011
It was great to be back playing the Masters this year after missing it last year. It is the one week of the year where even practice rounds are enjoyable!
Playing well in the majors this year is definitely a priority for me as last year, despite it feeling like a good year I was very poor in the majors. I looked like continuing that disappointment after being +5 with 11 holes to play on Friday. But I dug in, and just trusted that my run of good holes would come. I somewhat banked on making an eagle on either 13 or 15 and fortunately that came at 13 to give myself a great chance of making the cut. I backed that up with birdies on 14 and 16 to get the job done.
I have realized recently the value of just hanging around, being patient and focussing on the course not the leaderboard. That payed off at Bay Hill where I lit up the back 9 and I knew that I had to make the cut as you never know what the weekend holds.
I played well enough to mount a real challenge. I was just average on the greens this week. That is disappointing because I feel I'm a great fast green putter. Once again, for about the 3rd week running, I've lead the field in driving accuracy and also greens in regulation. My ball striking has never been so good. My solid play lead me to a 71, 68 weekend which pulled me up to a respectable T11 finish which starts off the years quest in the majors quite well.
It was an enjoyable and exciting tournament to be a part of and, as the old adage says: "the tournament doesn't start until the back 9 on Sunday" That was particularly true this year. The roars were there, you could tell what hole they were coming from and therefore who was making them! Great stuff.
My T11 books my place in the field for next year. Can't wait....
Thanks guys....
